An attractive alternative to a plastic compost bin, the design is based on the traditional WBC Beehive. In fact many people actually think it’s a real hive with bees! Made from 1” thick high quality Scandinavian Pine from managed forests, which is then pressure treated with timber preservatives to prevent rot and insect damage. It’s ideal for the smaller garden where space is at a premium, turning kitchen waste (vegetable peelings, tea bags, egg shells, etc.) and garden clippings into an invaluable compost. It can also be used to store garden tools, firewood, or hide an unsightly waste bin and is an attractive garden feature in its own right. The Beehive Composter measures 26” x 26” with an overall height of just over 36” and has a internal capacity of around 260 litres. The gabled roof hinges right back for loading and is held on a sash cord leaving both your hands free for loading. A door at the base can be lifted off to remove compost when ready or alternatively the individual sections can be lifted off to access the lower layers of well-rotted material. The natural finish has a slight green tinge due to the pressure treatment, although this gradually fades to a golden colour on exposure to sunlight When used as a compost bin it should always be sited on bare earth to allow worms to enter from the ground and provide drainage, never place on concrete slabs or other hard surface.
