Despite their delicate appearance, these cloches are very robust weighing between 12 to 34 kgs (27 to 75lbs) so they can withstand high winds without risk of being blown away. The castings are zinc coated prior to painting to inhibit rust formation although raw castings are available to special order. The cloches are expertly glazed in the traditional manner using 3mm horticultural glass with putty and painted a flat off- white colour to simulate an ‘antique’ appearance. The cloche sides come flat packed with copper split pins supplied for easy assembly and storage when not in use. The pyramid roof is fully assembled apart from handle which simply fixes with a nut. On warmer days the cloche is ventilated by rotating the roof through 45 degrees leaving gaps at the four corners. As a measure of the product quality and authenticity we have supplied these cloches to the National Trust, English Heritage, the RHS (Harlow Carr Gardens) and the National Trust for Scotland. On a lighter note we have also supplied modified cloches (with a door) to several Tortoise who use them as a bijou residence during the Summer months.
